The link below leads to a short video clip (produced by Buzzfeed Celeb) that explains the nature of the popular children's television show "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" and its incomparable host, Mr. Fred Rogers. This video is just one example demonstrating that the entertainment that is being produced for today's children is very different than previous generations of kids who were able to watch "Mr Rogers' Neighborhood" regularly. His show was educational and sensitive to children's emotional and cognitive development. It was slower paced, which taught children patience, and consistently validated children's potential for imagination and building healthy coping skills to adapt to life's challenges. Mr. Rogers advocated for children beyond his show, and was particularly concerned with counteracting the kinds of negative stimuli that children are surrounded by through trauma, stress, and violent media content. I hope that parents remember to include Mr. Rogers in their children's lives, since the world has only gotten more complicated and kids are the most vulnerable.
"I want to be able to take a breath and think things through."
"I haven't been able to talk about this with anyone before."
"I am glad I could vent to someone who isn't going to laugh at me or think that I am weird."
No judgment. Really.
