The link below leads to a very poignant story, told by Kevin in his own words, about his life experiences before and after attempting suicide. He has not only survived, but thrived, by building a support net and continuously learning about the nature and impact that mental illness and suicide have not only on the person directly experiencing the distress, but on the family and friends surrounding the person in distress. Mental illness can become extremely isolating, if someone does not reach out for help. I hope that this video (produced by Buzzfeed) spreads awareness and hope.
"I want to be able to take a breath and think things through."
"I haven't been able to talk about this with anyone before."
"I am glad I could vent to someone who isn't going to laugh at me or think that I am weird."
No judgment. Really.
