An Honor to Share Veteran's Day with Vets
Military veterans have always held a special place in my heart and work. Over the years, I have been involved with several nonprofit organizations organizations that help veterans in the US, connecting them with resources and helping them to improve their daily functioning and wellbeing. My dissertation research looked at the challenges of veteran reintegration to civilian life, especially including the challenges to seeking and receiving mental health treatment, and the benefits of utilizing drama therapy techniques towards overcoming those obstacles and challenges.
For this Veteran's Day, I helped to facilitate a hugely successful barbecue, where hundreds of veterans and their families gathered to celebrate the holiday, at the West Los Angeles Veteran's Association campus. This event was sponsored by The Association for Parrot C.A.R.E., a program that unites veterans with rescued parrots, for mutual rehabilitation. The 2 parrots shown above were rehabilitated by veterans, and were happy to share in the Veteran's Day celebration, too! For more information about this worthy organization: http://parrotcare.org/
